INSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL BIOLOGY (IMB)-SINGAPORE IMMUNOLOGY NETWORK (SIGN) LAB TOUR
Joint lab tours from IMB-SIgN will include a preview of Institute of Medical Biology’s histology lab where scientists prepare and process biopsy samples onto a microscope glass slide. These samples can be stained with various dyes to provide a more meaningful information of the proteins available in the sample. From here, scientists can proceed to IMB’s Microscopy Unit and Singapore Immunology Network’s The Functional Imaging Platform where they research on fixed and living tissues in various miscroscopy techniques. Such imaging techniques include brightfield, super resolution and multi-photon microscopy. Here, they will then be able to study cell migration and interaction to determine whether the cellular or tissue architecture is normal or diseased. This is one of the different ways scientists contribute to the cure of various diseases.
Tour duration: 30 minutes (max. 45 visitors)
4 sessions: 2.30pm, 3.15pm, 4pm & 4.45pm (Preferably no children below the age of 7. Children between 7-12 years old should be accompanied by an adult.)
